Trip to Texas
Monday’s travel was the culmination of weeks of planning that involved faculty, staff, and student leadership. In all, 222 cadets and 12 staff were picked up from four locations and driven by bus to Portland Jetport. From Portland, two charter planes carried the group to Houston Hobby Airport, where buses were again used to complete the final leg of the journey to Texas A&M Maritime. Once in Galveston, all students and staff completed ship familiarization aboard the TS Kennedy before spending the first night of Summer Sea Term ‘25 aboard. Aside from minor delays with the aircraft, all aspects of traveling went very smoothly. This was certainly a unique experience for our first-year cadets, who have now learned how to pack their gear efficiently and have flown to meet a ship. The lessons learned today will serve them well as they prepare for their cadet shipping billets next summer.

- Stronger Ties FormedCadets aboard the TS Kennedy spent the past 10 days underway, sailing between New York City and Belfast, Northern Ireland. Students enjoyed calm seas for most of the leg but were stuck under overcast skies, much to the chagrin of the upper-class deck cadets who are actively trying to complete their celestial navigation project. This […]

- Switching to the Engine RoomOur second leg of our Summer Sea Term 2025 cruise has been really fun! These experiences have helped unite the Maine and Texas communities on board. A few […]
