Jeffrey R. Bartlett ’78
Jeffrey R. Bartlett, 68, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 20. Jeffrey was born on March 1, 1956 to Edward L. and Joan G. Bartlett in Newburyport, MA.
Jeff graduated from Calais High School in 1974. He continued his education at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, where he served as Regimental Commander and graduated in 1978 with a B.S. in Marine Engineering. Jeff had a full career as a Merchant Marine, rising quickly to serve as Chief Engineer in the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command. He served over 20 years, earning many accolades along the way.
Jeff married Margaret “Meg” Bradford in 1996 and together they settled in Phippsburg, Maine. When not at sea, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family who adored him: Jeff had a huge heart and his generosity was overflowing. He loved his camp in the mountains, the company of his dogs, and his time spent on motorcycles. Jeff enjoyed his motorcycle so much that he had it shipped to London while earning his masters degree there. He took his motorcycle on many long trips, including across the US and most recently to Newfoundland.
After retirement from Military Sealift Command, Jeff continued to sail as a Chief Engineer with the Maine State Ferry Service. He enjoyed staying busy closer to home until he fully retired in 2022.
Jeff was predeceased by his parents and brother Scott. He is survived by his wife, Meg; stepson, Lincoln; brother, Edward Bartlett, Jr.; sister, Kathy Spangler; numerous nieces and nephews; and three Grandchildren. Jeff will always be missed.
All friends and family are welcome to Jeffrey’s celebration of life at 1 PM on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 28 Goose Rock Road on Westport Island. Arrangements by Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. Condolences may be made online at www.DaigleFuneralHome.com.
