Chester Robert Tweedie, 92, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at home, surrounded by his daughter, 3 grandchildren, and his furry companion Emma. He was born August 3, 1932, in Millinocket, the son of Robert and Constance (Marston) Tweedie.
Chester is survived by his daughter Linda Wight of Orland; step-son Greg Harrison and wife Susan of Phippsburg; one brother Brian Tweedie and wife Betty of Bucksport; two sisters, Jean Mercer and husband Bob of Bucksport, Julee Hallowell and husband Brian of Orland; 3 grandchildren, Randi Shibles and husband Waylon, Riley Chase, and Dylan Wight; and 4 great grandchildren, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Chet graduated from Bucksport High School and went on to graduate from Maine Maritime Academy, before joining the Navy. Chet and his family moved across Maine and New Hampshire during his engineering career within paper mills. Chet enjoyed life to the fullest; flying planes, camping, fishing, boating, scuba diving, spending time with family, and he had a way with animals, both pets and those in the wild. Chet was always busy working outside or puttering on motors, boats, etc.
Although Chet spent many winters in Florida, he was always with family in Maine for the summer, including many birthdays poolside or at the lake. Chet was a highly respected, caring and wonderful person, who will be missed by his family and friends.
A gathering will be held on January 11, 2025 at 1pm at the Orland United Methodist Church, Parish Hall. This is an opportunity for all to share memories of Chet. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Silver Lake Cemetery, Bucksport.
